MISCHIEF WITH A MICROPHONE

“I love doing stand-up. It’s like walking a tightrope ...over a pool of hungry sharks...
while the audience hacks at the rope with machetes.” – jD Shapiro
jD Embraces The Chaos
From 2005 to 2010, Shapiro lit up comedy clubs across the USA, blending his unique "NYC-NJ-LA-Irish-mumbling-as-a-child-with-a-speech-impediment" accent into a mischievous delivery. On stage, he's unafraid to speak his truth with authenticity.
"People like the truth as much as they like poetry. And people fucking hate poetry." – from the movie "Vice," written and directed by Adam McKay.
The good news for jD is that there are plenty of people who enjoy "poetry."
In just over a year of performing, jD was made a "Made Man" (Paid Regular) at The World Famous Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip and in San Diego by legendary Mitzi Shore.
jD was also a Paid Regular at Stand Up NY, The Yellow Door in San Diego, and The Blue Note in Napa Valley (Until it closed in December 2025). His comedy, infused with Bugs Bunny’s wit and the belief that failure only counts if you quit, resonates with raw charm.
After a 12-year hiatus—having lost his passion for performing—he regained it with a vengeance. In 2022, he returned to stand-up by performing a one-man, one-hour show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, in The Gilded Balloon, one of the festival’s top venues.

Word-of-mouth and most reviews were great: Out of the 3,000+ shows taking place at the festival jD's was one of the choices to see.

In 2023, jD performed a revised version of the show at a more intimate venue.
